Southport's spring 2026 is significantly better than most years. Two of the Elegantly Eccentric Year of Culture events land in April and May. Easter brings the town back to life. And the Sausage & Cider Festival in April is a good excuse to be in Victoria Park on a Saturday. Here's the full picture.

πŸ“…Spring 2026 key dates: Easter 3–6 April Β· Cristal Palace (Lord Street) 3–4 April Β· Sausage & Cider Festival 18 April Β· Big Top Festival 2–3 May

Easter Weekend: 3–6 April

Easter in Southport is the signal that the season has started. The beach car parks reopen. The pier is busy. The Botanic Gardens in Churchtown are at their spring best. This year, Easter coincides almost exactly with the Cristal Palace street theatre event on Lord Street.

Cristal Palace on Lord Street: 3–4 April

French street theatre company Transe Express brings its Cristal Palace show to Southport for two nights over Easter weekend. A 15-metre flying chandelier suspended above Lord Street, aerial performers, live music, thousands watching from the Victorian boulevard. Free to watch β€” no tickets. One of the most genuinely spectacular events Southport has seen in years.

Sausage & Cider Festival: 18 April

Two weeks after Easter, Victoria Park hosts the Sausage & Cider Festival. Afternoon session (1–5pm) and evening session (5–10pm) β€” book separately. Bratwurst, artisan ciders, oompah bands. Good for a Saturday afternoon in April when the weather might cooperate, might not.

Big Top Festival: 2–3 May

The second of the Year of Culture events. World-class modern circus from companies including Circa and Gandini Juggling. Across open-air stages in the town centre β€” mix of free outdoor performances and ticketed shows. The early May Bank Holiday weekend.

Planning a Spring Visit

Spring is an underrated time to be in Southport. The town isn't at peak-summer chaos. The beaches are open and often better than in summer β€” fewer people, good light, proper space. Hotels and restaurants have better availability than in July–August. If you're flexible on dates, April or early May is a genuinely good choice in 2026 given the events on.
