Formby Golf Club

Right then, if you're a golfer visiting Southport, you've probably heard of Formby Golf Club. It's not actually *in* Southport, it's in Formby, but it's close enough. Proper links course this, right on the coast, with all the dunes and tricky winds you'd expect. 4.7 stars on Google from 376 reviews, so people seem to rate it.

Now, I'm no golf expert, but I know a decent course when I see one. It's been around forever, this place. Beautifully maintained, even if it can be a bit brutal for us less-than-pro players. Plus, you're not far from Royal Birkdale, which is hosting The Open in 2026 – might give you some inspiration!

They're open pretty much all day during the week, 8am to 10pm, but Sunday's are shorter hours, 11am to 5pm. I'd ring ahead on 01704 872164 to check green fees and book a tee time, especially if you're going during peak season. Check their website too, it's formbygolfclub.co.uk.
