Right, so Jackman Gym. If you're looking to keep in shape while you're in town, or you're a local wanting a decent workout, it's a solid shout. It's in the town centre, so dead easy to get to. They got a 4.8 rating from 70 reviews, so people seem pretty happy with it, and it's open 'til 8pm most nights (7pm on Fridays, and midday on Saturdays). They've got all the usual gear – treadmills, weights, that sort of thing. Plus, I spotted on their site they do specific training for golf, which is handy given all the courses around here. I've not used them myself, I prefer a run along the prom, but a mate swears by them. He says the trainers know their stuff and it's a friendly atmosphere, not one of those intimidating places.

It's not the cheapest gym in town, mind. You get what you pay for, though, and it's definitely cleaner and better equipped than some of the budget options. Plus, being right in the centre, it's handy for popping in before or after doing your shopping.

Last thing, parking in town can be a mare, so factor that in. You might be better off getting the train to Southport station and walking.
