Big Wheel Southport

Fancy seeing Southport from a different angle? The Big Wheel is plonked right on the seafront in the town centre, so you can't miss it. It's one of those observation wheels – goes round nice and slow, giving you a good look out over the pier, the sea, and all the way back inland.

It's definitely one for the kids, they'll love it. I took my niece and nephew last summer and they were pointing out everything. Just be aware it's completely outdoors, so it's only open when the weather's playing ball, and even then, only Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Check before you go.

Now, it only gets a 3.6 out of 5 from 7 reviews online, so don't go expecting the London Eye. But for a quick spin and a decent view of our little Merseyside town, it's not bad.

Bear in mind it's seasonal, so it's usually open Spring and Summer. And the queues can get pretty long on sunny weekend afternoons, so maybe aim for a Wednesday morning if you can.
