Right, so Grant Searl's gallery, The Northerner, is on Lord Street, right in the thick of it. You can't miss it, really. It's got a 4.9 rating from 23 reviews, so people seem to rate it, and it's open every day except Sunday, 10am to 4pm. Give him a ring on the website if you are planning a visit.

He's a local photographer, so it's all scenes of the North - think moody skies over Ainsdale beach, that sort of thing. I've got a couple of his prints myself. It's good quality stuff, not just your average tourist tat, and he's a nice fella to chat to. Worth a look if you're into photography or just want a reminder of Southport when you get home.

It's all indoors, so good for a rainy day, and it's not really geared towards kids, to be honest. More for adults who appreciate art, but it's free to get in, so no harm in popping your head in. It’s a year round thing, so not like the fair that comes and goes.

If you're driving, best bet is to park in one of the town centre car parks – Chapel Street is usually a good shout. The gallery is right on Lord Street, so you can't miss it.
