The Hesketh Arms

If you're after a solid, reliable pub in town, The Hesketh Arms is a decent shout. You know what you're getting – it's part of the Vintage Inns chain, so the menu's pretty standard, but they do it well. Think hearty meals, proper cask ales, and a beer garden that's a sun trap in summer. It gets a 4.5 rating from nearly 3,000 Google reviews, so plenty of folk seem happy enough.

It's not exactly a cutting-edge cocktail bar or anything – more of a traditional pub atmosphere, good for families and those who like a bit of history. It's in a building dating back to the 1700s, so it has a bit of character. Sometimes it can get busy and a little noisy, especially on weekends, but that's just the way it is.
