About Wild Root
Alright, so Wild Root down in Halsall is a decent shout if you're looking for somewhere a bit different to take the kids. It's not technically Southport town centre, but it’s only a short drive and well worth it. It’s basically a nature reserve with a cafe, but don’t go expecting Formby squirrel action. It’s more about open space and letting the little ones run wild. Google reviews reckon it's a 4.8 out of 5 from over 350 reviews, which is pretty solid.
They’ve got some nice walking trails, and the whole place is pretty well kept. The cafe is decent enough, a bit pricey, I'd say ££, but what isn’t these days? They do a decent brew and the cakes are alright. It's open every day, but closes at 4pm, so don't be rocking up late expecting a sunset stroll. Opens at 9am most days, 10am on Sundays.
It’s free to get in, which is always a bonus when you've got a family to feed. Give them a ring on 01704 562002 if you want to check anything specific, or have a look at their website.
One thing to remember: it can get pretty muddy after it's been raining, so wellies for the kids are a must.
