Nature Reserves Near Southport
The dunes and wetland reserves along this stretch of coast are genuinely significant. I've been walking them for forty years and they still surprise me. Ainsdale Sand Dunes, Birkdale Sandhills, RSPB Marshside, Freshfield Dune Heath: all within easy reach of the town, almost all free. Go on a weekday morning and you'll have most of them to yourself. The RSPB reserve at Marshside is best in winter: wide skies, wading birds, and almost nobody else there.
