Nature Reserves Near Southport
The Sefton Coast has one of the most significant stretches of coastal dune habitat in England. Ainsdale Sand Dunes National Nature Reserve, the Ainsdale and Birkdale Sandhills, Banks Marsh, Freshfield Dune Heath, and RSPB Marshside are all within easy reach of Southport. Most are free to enter. Most are quiet on weekday mornings. The RSPB Marshside reserve north of the town is particularly good in winter โ wide skies, waders, and almost no one else there.
