The Grand, Southport

Right, The Grand on Lord Street. You can't miss it, it's... grand! It got a 4.4 rating on Google from over 600 reviews so people seem happy enough. I've not stayed myself, but I've popped in for a pint and it's a good spot if you want to be right in the middle of things.

It's a proper landmark building and they've done a decent job with the refurb. They've got a restaurant in there too. It's probably more of a couples' place, to be honest, rather than somewhere to bring the kids, though I'm sure they're welcome. It will be chocka during The Open at Birkdale in 2026, being right on Lord Street – book ahead if you're coming for the golf!

They're only open from Thursday to Sunday – bit weird, that – so don't go trying to get in for a meal mid-week. Give them a ring on 01704 334533 to check what's on, or have a look at their website.

If you're driving, parking on Lord Street can be a pain, so head for one of the car parks off the main drag.
