New Golden Star

Right, so if you're after a Chinese in town, New Golden Star on Lord Street is a decent shout. I've been a few times with the family, and it's always been pretty solid. It's not the fanciest place, but the food's good and the portions are generous – you know, proper Chinese takeaway style. Plus, with a 4.1 rating from nearly 100 Google reviews, it seems most folks agree.

It's definitely more of a casual, family-friendly sort of place than somewhere super romantic for couples, if you catch my drift. They're open every day except Tuesday, but only in the evenings from 5pm until 11pm. I reckon it's a good option if you're after a no-fuss meal after a day out in Southport.

They do all the usual stuff – sweet and sour, chow mein, that sort of thing. Nothing too adventurous, but tasty enough.
