Prince of Wales Hotel

Right, so the Prince of Wales on Lord Street... you can't miss it, it's a proper landmark. I've never actually *stayed* there myself, but I've popped in for a pint and a nosey a few times. It's got that old-school grandeur about it, if you're into that sort of thing. The location is spot-on for the shops and the pier, dead centre.

It gets a 3.4 on Google from over 1600 reviews, so it's not perfect, like. I reckon you're paying for the history and the location more than cutting-edge luxury. They've got a spa and a restaurant, which is handy. I wouldn’t say it's particularly aimed at families – feels more like a couples or older crowd kind of place. With The Open at Birkdale in 2026, I'd imagine this will be booked solid, being so central.

If you're thinking of afternoon tea, book well in advance – it’s a popular spot. Parking can be a nightmare around Lord Street, so factor that in.
