If you're after a decent Malaysian and pan-Asian meal in town, Straits Kitchen on West Street is a solid bet. It gets a 4.7 out of 5 on Google from nearly a hundred reviews, so people generally seem happy. It's not dirt cheap – I'd say it's in the 'two pound signs' range – but the portions are decent.

It's got a fairly relaxed atmosphere; I've seen couples having a quiet night and families with older kids in there. The menu covers a fair bit of ground, from your usual satays and Nasi Goreng to some more interesting seafood dishes. They're closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which is a bit annoying, but open every other evening from 5pm.

I've been a few times and never had a bad meal, though it can get a bit noisy when it's packed. It's not a massive place, so if you're planning on going on a Friday or Saturday, you're best off giving them a ring on 01704 225479 to book a table.

Worth noting that parking on West Street itself is a nightmare. Try the side streets off Lord Street, or the car park near the Atkinson.
