Barton Butchers (W. Barton & Sons Ltd)

Right, if you're after a proper butcher in Southport town centre, Barton Butchers on Eastbank Street is your place. Forget the supermarket stuff, this is the real deal. They've been going for years and have a solid 4.8 stars from 31 Google reviews, which says something.

They do all the usual cuts, plus a few things you won't find everywhere else, like proper black pudding. They also do a nice line in sausages – the Cumberland ones are my personal favourite. It's not the cheapest, mind, but you're paying for quality here.

Word of warning though, they aren't open all hours. Check before you head down, especially if it's Wednesday or Sunday as they're shut. Otherwise, they usually close up by 2:30pm most days, and 2pm on Saturdays. Phone number is 01704 227216 if you want to check anything with them before you go.
