Right, need some milk and bread? Lidl in the town centre on Lord Street is your shout. It gets a solid 4.4 stars from around 1,600 Google reviews, so you know it's not half bad. I nip in there myself for the weekly shop, and it's usually pretty decent.

It's open late most days – 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday. Sundays are shorter, 10am to 4pm, so don't get caught out. Selection is what you'd expect, good prices on staples, and they often have some random stuff in the middle aisle. You know the drill.

It's not exactly a destination, let's be honest, but for a quick shop it does the job. I’ve found the staff pretty sound whenever I've been. Call them on 020 3966 5566 if you need to check stock.

Parking can be a pain around there, especially on Saturdays. Give yourself a bit of extra time to find a space.
