Briarlee Garden Centre

Need some bedding plants or a new garden gnome? Briarlee Garden Centre, out in Banks, is a decent shout. It's got a 4.5 star rating from over 180 reviews on Google, so people generally seem happy enough. It's not the biggest garden centre you'll ever see, granted, but it's got a good selection of the basics and some nice bits and pieces.

They're open every day, but don't get caught out on a Sunday – they don't open until 10:30am, half an hour later than the rest of the week. Good if you like a lie-in! Closes at 4pm on Sundays too, so don't leave it too late. They seem to be pretty active on their Facebook page if you want to see what's new in, search for "Briarlee-garden-centre-834682296555118".

It's a family-run place, which I always like to support. You can usually find what you need, and the staff are pretty helpful if you're stuck. It's not the cheapest, mind you, but the quality is usually there.

Worth noting, it's a bit out of the way if you don't have a car – you'll need to drive. There's parking on site, but it can get a bit busy on weekends, especially around midday.
