Holmes-Smith Quality Butchers

If you're doing a proper Sunday roast, or just need a decent sausage for your butty, Holmes-Smith on Eastbank Street is where you want to go. Forget the supermarket stuff, this is proper Merseyside quality. They've been going for donkey's years and everyone I know swears by them.

They get a solid 4.8 stars on Google from 41 reviews, so it's not just me saying it. It’s a proper old-school butcher's, the kind that knows their stuff. You can tell they care about where the meat comes from. They’re open every day, but close early at 2:30 PM most days, and 2:00 PM on Sunday, so don't be rocking up late expecting a steak.

Parking can be a pain on Eastbank Street, especially on a Saturday. Best bet is to park in one of the town centre car parks and walk; it's only a few minutes.
