Need flowers last minute? Sweeneys on Lord Street is usually my go-to. They’re open 'til 5 most weekdays, and even have Saturday hours 'til 4, which has saved me more than once when I completely forgot an anniversary (sorry, love!). They’re proper florists, not just a place that slaps together whatever's cheapest.

They've got a solid rep too; 4.8 stars from almost 100 Google reviews ain't bad going, especially around here where everyone has an opinion! You can tell they put the effort in. I've always found the staff helpful, even when I'm clueless about what I actually need. The website's decent if you want to get an idea of what they do, but honestly, popping in is the best way to see what's fresh.

They do all sorts, from funeral arrangements to wedding bouquets, so they're not just a last-minute bunch of roses kinda place. I got a lovely orchid off them for my mum's birthday last year and it lasted for ages. Give them a ring on 01704 225359 if you’ve got something specific in mind.

Just a heads up: Lord Street parking can be a nightmare on Saturdays, so give yourself plenty of time or park further out and walk.
