Sandon Crown

If you're after a proper, no-frills local boozer in Southport town centre, you could do a lot worse than the Sandon Crown. Don't expect fancy cocktails or gastropub grub here; it's more about a decent pint and a bit of chat. I've popped in a few times after work, and it's always got a friendly atmosphere – not rowdy, just a good mix of regulars and folks passing through. It's got a solid 4.4 stars from 69 Google reviews, which isn't bad going.

It's not massive inside, so it can get a bit cosy, especially on a Friday or Saturday. They're open from 5pm to 9:30pm Monday to Saturday, but they're closed on Sundays, which is a shame. I have seen a few dogs in there, so it looks like they're welcome, which is a plus for me.

It’s not trying to be something it isn’t, you know? Just a proper pub. They have the sports on, but it's not the kind of place where the commentary is blaring out.
