Botanic Gardens Aviaries

Alright, so you're thinking of popping down to the Botanic Gardens Aviaries? Good shout. It's one of those proper old-school things that's been there donkey's years. It's in the Botanic Gardens themselves, which is technically Southport town centre, even though it feels like its own little world. The birds are the main draw, obviously – loads of colourful parrots and finches and that.

It's dead good for the little 'uns, keeps them occupied for a bit. Don't go expecting a massive zoo, mind. It's fairly small, but what do you want? It's free! Google says it's got a 4.3 out of 5 based on 8 reviews, which sounds about right. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's a nice way to spend an hour or so, especially if you're already in the Botanic Gardens. I always park on the road outside. It can get a bit busy on a sunny day, so get there early if you want a decent spot. And maybe bring some bird seed – not that you're supposed to feed them, but you know... kids love it.
