About Botanic Gardens Fernery
Right, so the Fernery in the Botanic Gardens... I've been going since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. If you're looking for something free to do with the kids in Southport, and it's a bit drizzly (let's face it, likely), this is a decent shout. It's open every day 10 'til 4, which is handy.
Don't go expecting Kew Gardens, mind. It's a small Victorian greenhouse, basically. They've got some interesting ferns in there, obviously, and it's nice and warm, which is a bonus. The Google reviews aren't amazing, only 3.6 stars from 8 reviews, so manage your expectations. Still, the Botanic Gardens themselves are lovely for a wander, and you can grab an ice cream nearby.
It's in the town centre, so easy enough to get to. Good for a short visit, maybe half an hour max in the Fernery itself.
One thing to be aware of: it can get pretty humid in there, so maybe don't wear your best woolly jumper!
