Alright, so Carr Lane Field. It's basically a big open green space right in the middle of town, which is handy. I mean, let's be honest, it's not Formby pine woods, but if you need somewhere for the kids to run wild and burn off some energy after being cooped up in the shops, it does the job. It's open 24/7, which is good if you fancy a midnight kickabout (though maybe don't, you might annoy the neighbours). Seriously though, it's a decent spot for a picnic if the weather's playing ball, or just a place to chill out and watch the world go by. It's completely free too, which is always a bonus these days, especially with a family.

Don't go expecting manicured lawns or anything fancy. It's a field, pure and simple. But sometimes, simple is exactly what you need, especially when you're in the middle of Southport town centre.
