Southport Beach is broad, sandy, and free, you can drive onto part of it, which is very useful if you've got kids and a lot of kit. The sea goes out a long way at low tide; it's not always swimmable, but as a beach for walking and messing about on, it's brilliant.
Victoria Park hosts the big events. Southport Flower Show, air shows, the food festival. If one of those is on when you're visiting, the park is worth seeing at its best.
The Marine Lake is a calmer alternative to the open beach, separated from the sea by the promenade, much flatter water. Good for paddleboarding and kayaking; the Watersports Centre is based there.
