August in Southport 2026 — Flower Show, Air Show and the Most Events in a Single Month

I've lived in Southport for 41 years. I've never seen an August calendar like 2026's. The Flower Show on 20–23 August. The Air Show on 29–30 August. That's two of the biggest events in the town's annual calendar, nine days apart, both at the peak of the summer season. Here's how to plan around it.

The Flower Show: 20–23 August

Victoria Park, four days, one of England's most established horticultural shows. Tickets from £23 early bird. The 2026 show has The Lakeside Reset as a new centrepiece, celebrity appearances across the four days, and the usual competitive show gardens and floral marquee.

If you're planning to come specifically for the Flower Show, Thursday 20 or Friday 21 August are the best choices — quieter than the weekend, everything still at its freshest. Saturday is the biggest day but also the most crowded and the most difficult for parking.

The Gap Week

25–28 August is the week between the two events. The town is busy — it's still August, still Bank Holiday period. Good time to visit if you want to be in Southport without the event-specific crowds. Restaurants more accessible, beach less packed, parking less extreme.

The Air Show: 29–30 August (Bank Holiday Weekend)

The biggest free event in the Southport calendar. 100,000+ spectators both days on Southport Beach. Red Arrows, RAF display teams, warbirds. Free to watch from anywhere along the Promenade or beach — but good positioning requires early arrival. Marine Drive car park fills before 10am.

The Accommodation Reality

Flower Show weekend and Air Show weekend in August will both be highly booked. If you're planning to be in Southport for either or both events, book accommodation now. The closer to the event you leave it, the more limited the options and the higher the prices. This is not an exaggeration — these events genuinely fill the town.
