Kirklake Bank
Kirklake Bank is a free car park in Formby, which is always a win. It gets pretty busy, especially on weekends and school holidays when everyone's heading to the beach or the National Trust reserve. It's right off the Formby Bypass (A565) so easy to get to, and then it's about a 10-15 minute walk through the woods to the beach and the red squirrel reserve.
Look, it's not the prettiest car park in the world, it's basically a field. But hey, it's free! And you'll save a fortune compared to the National Trust car park down the road. Plus, walking through the woods is part of the fun, isn't it? Gives the kids (or you!) a chance to spot a squirrel or two.
It's open 24/7, because, well, it's a field! There aren't any marked bays or anything, so just park where you can find a space. Just be mindful of not blocking anyone in, yeah?
Word to the wise: because it's a field, it can get pretty muddy after it rains. So maybe don't wear your best shoes. Wellies are never a bad shout if you're coming after a wet spell.
