If you're after proper sports gear in Southport town centre, Arcade Sports is the place. Forget your big chains; this is a proper local shop. They’ve got a really solid 4.9 stars on Google from 44 reviews, which says a lot.

I've been nipping in there for years, mainly for running shoes and the odd bit of cricket kit for my lad. They know their stuff and aren’t pushy with the sales, which I appreciate. They stock decent brands, not just the cheap rubbish. It's not the biggest shop, mind you, so don't expect absolutely everything under the sun, but they'll usually order it in for you if they haven't got it.

Opening times are pretty standard: 10:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Saturday, but they're closed on Sundays. Give them a ring on 01704 546748 if you need something specific, or have a look at their page on the Discover Southport website.

Parking in town can be a pain, so I usually try and walk or cycle in if I can.
