Southport Aquarium

Alright, if you're looking for something to do in town with the kids, Southport Aquarium is worth a shout. Don't go expecting something the size of Liverpool's Blue Planet, mind you. It's smaller, but the Google reviews are really strong at 4.8 stars from 26 reviews, so they must be doing something right! It's right in the centre of Southport, so easy to get to.

They've got a decent range of sea creatures, from what I've heard. Good for an hour or two, especially if the weather's turned proper Southport-y. My little lad loves the clownfish – proper Nemo stuff. It’s not massive, so don’t plan a whole day around it.

Opening hours are a bit odd – closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays, and open 10 till 5 the other days. Give them a ring on 07449 505792 if you are unsure. Worth checking their website too, just in case anything's changed.

Oh, and a heads-up: parking in town can be a pain, especially on a Saturday. Give yourself plenty of time to find a spot – or maybe hop on the train.
