Hotels & Accommodation in Southport
Where to stay in Southport
Southport has a proper range of hotels. The Scarisbrick Hotel is the Victorian option with character — it's been on Lord Street since 1845 and looks the part. The Vincent is the contemporary choice, modern and popular with weekend breaks. The Metropole on the Promenade is a solid mid-range option with sea views. For reliability and a fixed price, Premier Inn operates two Southport locations (one near the station, one near Ocean Plaza).
If you're here for The Open 2026 at Royal Birkdale (12–19 July), book now. The whole town fills up in July and Birkdale accommodation in particular goes first — it's walking distance from the course. If you haven't booked, check Formby and Ormskirk as fallback options, both around 20–30 minutes from the club.
For a quieter stay, Churchtown is worth looking at — it's the old village end of Southport, calmer than the seafront, about 10 minutes from town by car. Good pubs, a proper village feel, and B&Bs that are better value than the seafront equivalents.
Prices: a decent double runs £60–80 per night midweek, £100–150 at weekends, and significantly more during Open week (12–19 July) and the August events (Flower Show 20–23 Aug, Air Show 29–30 Aug). If you're visiting in peak season and haven't sorted accommodation, go soon.
Local's Guide
Where to Stay in Southport
Southport has more hotel stock than most visitors expect. Lord Street is the obvious base, a mile-long Victorian boulevard with The Scarisbrick and The Vincent as the main character hotels. Both are proper hotels with history, not identikit chains. If you want reliable and predictable, Premier Inn has two Southport locations: one on the seafront (handy for the beach and Marine Lake) and one on the edge of town.
Birkdale village is the quieter, more upmarket option, particularly for golfers. It's walking distance from Royal Birkdale Golf Club and has its own cluster of good restaurants and pubs. For The Open 2026 (12-19 July), Birkdale is the most practical base, but accommodation within walking distance of the course books out months in advance.
B&Bs and guest houses are scattered across the residential streets between Lord Street and the seafront. They're often better value than the hotels, typically £60-80 per night midweek. Some are excellent, some are tired. Check reviews carefully and look for recent ones.
