Hotels & Accommodation in Southport
Where to stay in Southport
Southport has a genuine range of hotels and accommodation, from The Bold Hotel on Lord Street (the nicest in town by most accounts) to seafront B&Bs, Victorian guest houses, and the chain hotels near Ocean Plaza. The Scarisbrick Hotel is the historic option with character. Premier Inn operates two Southport locations if you want reliability and a fixed price.
If you're here for The Open 2026 at Royal Birkdale (12-19 July), accommodation books out months in advance. Get in early. Birkdale village is walking distance from the course and the most practical base, but the whole town fills up during tournament week.
For a quieter stay, Churchtown is worth considering, it's the old village end of Southport, calmer than the seafront, and only about 10 minutes from the town centre. Lord Street is the best base for shopping, restaurants, and easy access to the pier and beach.
Budget-wise, Southport is good value compared to most English seaside towns. A decent double room starts around Β£60-80 per night midweek, rising to Β£100-150 at weekends and significantly more during Open week and the August events. B&Bs and guest houses on the residential streets off Lord Street offer the best value-for-money.
Local's Guide
Where to Stay in Southport
Southport has more hotel stock than most visitors expect. Lord Street is the obvious base, a mile-long Victorian boulevard with The Bold Hotel at one end and The Scarisbrick at the other. Both are proper hotels with character, not identikit chains. If you want reliable and predictable, Premier Inn has two Southport locations: one on the seafront (handy for the beach and Marine Lake) and one on the edge of town.
Birkdale village is the quieter, more upmarket option, particularly for golfers. It's walking distance from Royal Birkdale Golf Club and has its own cluster of good restaurants and pubs. For The Open 2026 (12-19 July), Birkdale is the most practical base, but accommodation within walking distance of the course books out months in advance.
B&Bs and guest houses are scattered across the residential streets between Lord Street and the seafront. They're often better value than the hotels, typically Β£60-80 per night midweek. Some are excellent, some are tired. Check reviews carefully and look for recent ones.
