Okay, so you're heading into town and need somewhere to ditch the motor? The Premier Inn Car Park on Lord Street is pretty handy, right in the centre of Southport (Merseyside, of course!). It's dead useful for popping to Marks and Spencer or grabbing a pint at The Sandgrounder.
Now, a heads up... it's primarily for Premier Inn guests. I can't say it's officially "free" parking for everyone else, but I've chanced it for a quick half-hour before without any bother. But don't chance it for an all-dayer on a Saturday, alright? It's open 24/7, so if you're staying at the hotel, you're golden. They do have disabled bays, which is always a plus.
It can get pretty busy, especially during the summer and around Christmas, so don't rely on it being empty. If you can't get a space, the council car park behind the Atkinson is your next best bet.
